General OWA Overview
Once you have successfully logged on to your Exchange account, you have access your Inbox (and other folders) to read email, send messages, organize contacts, and schedule appointments. The Inbox folder is the default window in Outlook Web Access.
Each folder has its own toolbar with buttons specific to that folder's functions. Below is a sample of some of the more general buttons you will encounter.

Often, the list of messages is longer than can be displayed on one page of the viewer. The Items box located on the toolbar lists the total number of messages, posts, or contacts that are in a folder and indicates how many are currently viewed. If the list of messages is longer than can be displayed on one page of the viewer at once, you can scroll through the contents of a folder, click Previous Page
and Next Page
. In Enhanced mode you can also click First Page
and Last Page
to jump to the beginning or end of folder contents. To go to a specific page, in the Items box, type a page number, and then press [ENTER].
Navigation Pane Overview
The Navigation Pane, located to the left to the main window(only available in Enhanced mode), is made up of two areas:
- An expandable folder list provides access to your Exchange folders (i.e., Inbox and Calendar) and any folders you create.
The folders are displayed in a hierarchy that can be expanded to view the folder contents or collapse to view only the top-level folder. The plus sign
icon next to a folder indicates that the folder contains other folders (subfolders).
- A set of buttons provide one-click access to your Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and public folders. The Options button allows you to set user options. The Rules button allows you control incoming messages.
A horizontal splitter bar
located between the folder list and the buttons allows you to collapse the buttons into a button tray:
![]()
When you click any folder or button in the Navigation Pane, its contents are displayed in the Outlook Web Access main window.
Increase the font size
- In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then on the General tab click Accessibility.
- In the Accessibility dialog box, select the Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages check box.
- Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes, and then refresh the browser window.
